Finding competitive advantages

A great way to gain competitive advantages over other teams is to identify things - be it tactics, techniques, players etc. - that are under or over valued by your competition. Penalty corners are no different.

We analysed 6384 corners from the NCAA D1 2024 fall season, from 756 games. This sample represents 75% of all games that were played last year. In the chart below we have plotted the % of time a given play was ran against the % of time that it was scored.

From the graph we see that hits are over valued - almost a quarter of all corners last year were hits, but these were scored at a lower % than sweeps which were also ran a lot less.
